    THE DOMAINE & OUR STORY

Should you one day find your way to us, we hope you will not expect an opulent château, dazzling technologies, or an elaborate range of wines. What we offer instead is something honest, engaging, and grounded in experience—because we believe that true winemaking begins with living in rhythm with nature, with stillness, and with one's original intention.

After completing our oenology studies in France, we did not follow the road to Bordeaux’s grand estates. We were drawn instead to Burgundy, where philosophy and terroir shape every gesture of the craft. For us, a domaine represents tradition, simplicity, and the quiet purity of something made by hand.

Behind this modest exterior lies a deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture—rooted in Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophy, strengthened by doctoral research in oenology, and shaped by our journey from Burgundy back to the foothills of the Helan Mountains in Ningxia.

A simple search on social media for “Domaine des Arômes” will reveal many impressions and reflections from sommeliers, critics, and fellow wine lovers. To us, wine is a living work of art—something that breathes and evolves in the vat, the barrel, and the bottle. Like a companion, it changes with time.

Where a painter works with color and a writer with words, we express through wine our affection for our homeland. And if, upon opening a bottle of Domaine des Arômes, you taste the saline trace of Helan’s alkaline soil, the fragrance of wild elaeagnus in bloom, the fierce sunlight, the arid wind—and perhaps sense the quiet integrity of its maker—then that alone is our greatest reward.

    SUN Miao | FOUNDER

I studied finance at Shandong University and later spent several years in France, where I completed a second degree in economics at the University of Rennes 1 and a master's program in Wine Culture and International Trade at Agrosup Dijon. Before returning to China, I worked in Burgundy with PION s.a.s., focusing on Asian markets. In 2010, I came back to Ningxia to establish Domaine des Arômes.

Since then, my work has focused on wine culture, biodynamic farming, and the long-term development of Chinese wine. Alongside the winery, I have also pursued doctoral research in wine marketing under Professor Li Hua, studying classification systems and pricing structures.

    PENG Shuai | WINEMAKER

I have known Sun Miao since we were in high school. After studying Biological Sciences at Shandong University, I continued my education in France and obtained the French National Diploma in Oenology (D.N.O.). Over the course of more than three years working in French wineries, I trained at Domaine Emmanuel Giboulot in Burgundy, Domaine de la Solitude in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and Domaine Rémi Chomel in the Rhône Valley.

After returning to China, I pursued doctoral research in wine microbiology under Professor Li Hua. Today I teach at Gansu Agricultural University, while also working with several boutique wineries as a consulting winemaker.
